kitchen experiments

Guys, brace yourselves for this announcement: I’ve been baking lately.

I KNOW. Me! And the house is still standing and I have not poisoned anybody. Not saying I’m turning over a new leaf, but I think with the stress of all the million and one things I’ve had to think about and plan lately, baking provides a rare feeling of being able to actually start and finish something in under an hour. Just ACCOMPLISH something in a reasonable amount of time, with fairly certain results, and follow directions without much critical thinking involved. Same reason I tend to do things like wash dishes or mow the lawn or go on ridiculously long runs when I am stressed. Just give me a job and I will finish it. Don’t ask me to figure out the best plane ticket to buy to California from Washington D.C. six months from now, or how in the world I am going to find a job this summer when seemingly no place of business is hiring within a 30-mile radius of me. Just give me a recipe and a cast iron fry pan and some pancakes to flip or some naan bread dough to beat the life out of darnit.

Recent recipes tried:

Naan Bread – I find this really fun to make. I made the kids Indian tacos the other day with these and they LOVED them.

Strawberry Banana Cream Baked Oatmeal Squares – Made this the Monday night for breakfast on Tuesday. Really simple and a great meal to make ahead.

Out of this cookbook:

Molasses Cookies
Peanut Butter Cookies
Oatmeal Raisin Cookies

(are we sensing a theme here?)

This recipe book is really great and actually makes for interesting reading so you should check it out! The recipes are healthified but considering that nothing I’ve made so far has lasted until the next day at my house, I would say they are kid-approved.

Make no mistake: Michaela remains the master chef of us kids, and the culinary goddess we all wish we could be, and pretty soon I’ll have to feature another one of her great recipes.

OK guys give me some recipes to make–quick, before this new fad blows over and I go back to my oatmeal and salad ways.

  1. So, do you like baking/cooking now? I agree with you about it being stress relieving, or sometimes simply something to do to give your mind a place to go without having to think about everything else…I personally LOVE cooking/baking….Well most of the time. ;D We should get together sometime and bake…?… I really love hanging out with you, and hope we can do so more before you leave in August. I just emailed you some links to some recipes. If you ever want some more ideas for recipies, I have ALOT on my pinterest page. See ya tomorrow, bye Keely!

    • I guess time alone will tell if it is actually something that I, like you, enjoy–or if it is just another phase. But it’s a useful thing to know about either way, since most people I’ve met like to eat;) Thank you for the recipes I look forward to checking them out! See you at VBS!
