Today I am praying for my brothers and sisters in Christ who believed that May 21st, 2011 was to be the day of the Rapture. Because, in case you hadn’t noticed, we’re still here. And as easy as it may be to join the mocking voices of nonbelievers–and as important as it is to distance true Biblical doctrine from this false teaching–I think it’s important to prioritize our brothers and sisters who have been led astray by Harold Camping and Family Radio. A lot of Christians have had their worlds rocked by this. There have been people maxing out credit cards, selling everything they owned, even euthanizing their pets, in preparation for this day. And now, they are all going to have to face May 22nd.
As a Christian, my main concern is my brothers and sisters who have been deceived. We should be praying for them, that their faith in the TRUE exposition of God’s Word not be shaken or swayed by this preacher.
Harold Camping is a false teacher who does not handle the Bible in an honest, reverent way. He rejects the local church, teaches against both communion and baptism, and says that Jesus died twice–all things that are totally opposed to what God’s Word says. He is not a trustworthy shepherd, but many of God’s sheep have been led astray by his teaching. As fellow believers, I think our concern right now needs to be for their souls, and how we can best love and serve them through whatever doubts or repercussions they may be facing right now.
As the body of Christ on earth, we are called to share each others burdens. Rather than join the mocking voices of the world, we should be voices of truth and of love, as we continue to await the return of our Lord. Because Jesus is coming, make no mistake about that. It is just not ours to know the day or the hour.
